Escape the winter blues that have descended across Victoria and find your community of like-minded people through paper crafting, especially if you have that inner need to make and create!!
“Papercrafting is such a fantastic hobby to get into,” says Michelle Brown, Creative Director of the From Picture to Page Papercrafts Show. “It’s a great craft for beginners to get into and even experienced paper crafters can always learn new techniques to add to their current skills or learn new ways to use existing craft supplies!” And once you get started into this hobby, you have the opportunity to meet other people who also are passionate about papercrafting.
“It really is a community,” says Michelle. “The crafters and retailers come together to share their latest creations, and chat about their latest purchases and discoveries. And it’s such a supportive hobby where we encourage each other.”
Papercrafting covers many crafts from the practical card making, through to building on the colouring craze with rubber art stamps and markers. These techniques can be expanded to use in scrapbooking where you can capture your family memories and take your digital photos off your phone and out into the world for family and friends to appreciate every day.
Art journaling is another branch of papercrafting that uses the same basic skills you can learn through card making. The benefits of journaling are finding their way into approaches to help with mental health. Art journaling is great for those like to express themselves with colours or images. And if you “can’t draw” there are options of finding images to use in art journaling where collage and painting become the main modes for expressing creativity.
The newest branch of paper crafting is Planners, taking our old paper based diaries and adding colour and embellishments to our pages, to schedule our weeks and months. Planners can also be used as memory keepers by adding photos to document a holiday or important event. Planners use the same craft supplies and basic skills to create lovely layouts. Our Planner Alley team share their uniquely designed stickers, colourful Washi tapes and embellishments.
The From Picture to Page and Beyond Papercraft Show is the place to learn more about card making, scrapbooking, art journaling and planning. The annual show is returning to the Vines Road Community Centre, Hamlyn Heights, Geelong with 26 retailers offering a wide range of activities and craft supplies for every level of paper crafter.
Activities across the weekend include mini-classes where talented teachers take you step by step through a project. There are also free Make and Take project on offer to give you a taste of using some of the newest products. Our talented crafters will also be running demonstrations across the weekend. They are happy to chat about what they are using, how they get their stunning results and answer any questions.
Papercrafting is for all ages too, not just fun for the kids! And our crafters will be coming to Geelong from all across Victoria, so you can make a day of it. Refreshments and plenty of seating areas are available so you can rest and catch up with like-minded crafters over a cuppa and lunch, or while waiting for your next mini class.
